// OVERVIEW

A trilogy of short films I made while exploring the National Parks over the last few years. I hope they capture some of the strangeness in this strangest of times.

// Olympic National Park

The Hall of Mosses trail inside the Hoh Rainforest is a strange and beautiful place. It's one of the only temperate rain forests in the United States, and its lichen-shrouded trees and fungus-covered logs make for one of the most complex ecosystems in the world. And, according to "acoustic ecologist" Gordon Hempton, it's also home to the quietest spot in the contiguous 48 states. I shot this short film while visiting there in August 2020.

// Acadia National Park

Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, at 1,530 feet (466 meters), is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and the first place to view sunrise in the United States.

On July 4th 2020, my friend Luke Boelitz and I spent the night van camping in a nearby Walmart Parking lot in order to summit in time to witness the first light around 4:30am.

// Big Bend National Park

The vast Big Bend National Park in South-West Texas is home to the darkest measured skies in the lower 48 states.

In September 2021, I embarked on a three day kayak trip along the Rio Grande, away from light pollution and into the darkness.

Video in the works.
